28 September 1999 18:45 GMT - Replacement setup.lst for Full Install

It appears that the full sized setup file had an invalid entry in it (the patch was OK). My apologies for this, people who have downloaded the full archive can get the updated file here (right-click and select Save Target As). Copy it into where you extracted the archive and re-run setup. The archive will be updated today.

18 September 1999 12:30 GMT - MP3 Startup Crash Fixed

Many people have reported startup crashing problems when trying to use MP3 files. Well, I apologise for the delay but I finally tracked the problem down, and a patch to v2.51 is available on the downloads page.

 6 June 1999 20:55 GMT - Version 2.5 Released

Version 2.5 of Deathmatch Manager is now available. This version includes support for MP3 playing (on client and server). You can download the complete v2.5 package from the downloads page. Sorry there's no patch from previous versions - the MP3 update has meant a fairly big change which needs a standard setup program to guarantee a successful install.

 31 May 1999 11:30 GMT - MP3 Update Imminent!

Many people have requested the ability to play MP3 files during play with DMM (as opposed to just MIDI files, as DMM currently supports).
This feature should become reality very soon! I am currently working on a modified version of the FreeAMP source code, and it's looking very promising. I'm going to compile it into the Quake2 DLL today, and if all goes well it'll just be a case of updating the front end to support them as well, meaning I should have a release candidate later this week (I hope). This will be for server-side MP3's initially (and for single-user vs bot practices) - I'll have to provide a workaround later for client side playing as I had to do for MIDI's (why oh why didn't Id include a client DLL as well as a server one?). Watch this space.

 9 May 1999 14:45 GMT - FTP links updated

Telefragged have altered their FTP server, so the links on the downloads page have been updated. I have also changed it to use their mirror script, so you'll have a choice of several potential download locations.

 28 November 1998 21:15 GMT - Server crash fix for CTF / Q2 v3.19

I've neglected DMM a bit lately (understatement), but after getting back into using it myself again, due to a LAN session with friends, I found to my horror that there was a rather nasty server crashing issue when we ran it up with Q2 v3.19 in CTF. "Bugger" was the cleanest word on my lips...

Well, it's now fixed. If anyone else was getting this problem, I apologise (but why didn't you email me? ;). Grab the patch on the downloads page.

15 September 1998 18:05 GMT - Deathmatch Manager returns!

Thought we'd gone? It seems Telefragged had a few organisational problems and forgot to move the DMM site when they switched servers, so the site was down for a while. Apologies to all who came here in the intervening time - it's taken a while for me to re-upload all the files. Thanks to all the people who emailed me to ask where DMM had gone, I'm glad you've found it useful!

Apologies also for the lack of any new versions of DMM over the past couple of months. Many factors have influenced this, although I mainly blame the undergrad studies I do in my spare time. I've got other projects going too, but I still have a few things I'd like to include in DMM, so there may be life in the old dog yet! ;)

26 June 1998 20:38 GMT - Source code updated

The source code for the gamex86.dll runtime implementation of DMM, which is available on the downloads page, has been updated to the latest version (v2.4). This is made available for those wanting to make extra modifications, or just for interest / educational value.

Plus, the full zipped archive has been updated to version 2.4 in line with the patch released yesterday, a one-stop download for new users.Again, this can be found on the downloads page.

25 June 1998 18:00 GMT - Version 2.4 released

Version 2.4 is now available as a patch on the downloads page.

Included is an update to the latest Eraser code (v0.992) to fix a couple of problems in the previous version, a small bug fix to the GUI and the inclusion of coloured names in obituaries and CTF messages.

12 June 1998 - Q2Utils give DMM the thumbs-up!

Q2Utils, a great Quake2 utility review site, have updated their review of DMM and given it their seal of approval! DMM had previously had a good review (4/5) for v1.0b, and the review has now been updated to take into account the wealth of new features introduced since then (pity they didn't up the score, but never mind..;)

DMM's only (I think?) rival as an integrated front-end & mod, OnTheWay, is reviewed here also. They have still given it more than DMM (4.5/5), but while I agree OTW's frontend is a bit nicer looking, DMM has more in the way of features, so I think it should at least equal OTW. But that's for you, the users to decide! ;)

Anyway, read the review at http://www.planetquake.com/q2utils/

11 June 1998 18:00 GMT- Notes re pak5.pak and count.pcx

A couple of users have mentioned having a message "can't load pic: count" repeatedly on clients with v2.32. This is not a bug, this is in fact a problem with how you have started the client. The 'count' picture is the icon which sits between the minutes and second on the timelimit countdown on the HUD, and is embedded in pak5.pak, which comes with v2.32.

Because pak5.pak is put in the DMM folder underneath Quake2, in order for clients to pick it up, they have to be started with "Quake2 +set game DMM" (or whatever your DMM folder is called). The client utility does this for you, so the golden rule is - use DMMClient.exe to start clients! If you don't, the server will tell clients to display count.pcx and they will not be able to because the pak file is in a custom game folder. Note that you should install DMM and the latest patch on all the clients.

If, for some reason, you don't want to install DMM on the clients, then you must copy the pak5.pak into the clients BASEQ2 folder before starting Quake2.

06 June 1998 11:05 GMT - Fixed a couple of HUD quibbles - v2.32

Amazing how these little things sneak through, isn't it? (sigh). There were a couple of HUD niggles in v2.3 and v2.31, namely the fact that the timer went negative during the intermission, and in CTF, when you had the flag in your hand, the flashing icon obscured your score (since it's been shifted down to make room for the timer).

Ah well, they're fixed at version 2.32, available on the downloads page. I've also updated the full archive now to v2.32, so new users have only 1 download to do.

05 June 1998 18:21 GMT - Fix for intermission delay (or lack of it)

Hmm - just found a bug in the Eraser code which means intermissions (i.e. the scoreboard at the end) are immediately exited so you get very little time to see the scores. Seems to have been a change to the Eraser code at v0.991 to exit the intermission automatically after 10 seconds, but the comparison was the wrong way around, so it never waited. (I effectively merged my code back into the new Eraser code, so I picked up the change too)

Anyway, it's fixed at version 2.31, available on the downloads page. I've released this immediately (without waiting for any other potential bug reports) because it pissed me off, so I think it'll probably annoy everybody else too!

04 June 1998 20:50 GMT - Version 2.3 Released

Deathmatch Manager v2.3 is out! Along with a few bug fixes, this release will include:

  1. - Eraser update to v0.991

    - Eraser teamplay configuration

  2. - Allows viewable weapons to be configured for PPMs

    - HUD update to include countdown to the timelimit

Go to the downloads page to grab the patch. The full archive will be replaced in the next day or so (in the meantime new users should download the v2.2 archive, then the patch).

19 May 1998 17:50 GMT - Feedback from NT4 users requested

I've been talking to one user who has had problems with with NT4 and Deathmatch Manager. He reports Quake2 crashing with a file access error, immediately with a dedicated server, and after a few hours with a listen server. I don't have an NT4 machine to test, so I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has or has not been able to run DMM on an NT4 machine.

Please email me at sjs@sadavar.demon.co.uk if you're on NT4 and have used DMM.

16 May 1998 10:05 GMT - Oops! DMMClient was missing from full v2.2 archive

In my hurry to move this site to telefragged, I forgot to include the DMM client program (DMMClient.exe) in the full v2.2 archive on the downloads page. This has now been rectified, but apologies to anyone who has downloaded the full archive between yesterday and today. The patch to v2.2 is not affected.

Those who did download the full archive and are missing DMMClient.exe can grab it here (168k). Unzip it into the folder you installed Deathmatch Manager into.

15 May 1998 - Site moves to TELEFRAGGED

Due to the interest shown in Deathmatch Manager, I'm glad to say that the Deathmatch Manager site has moved to www.telefragged.com
.
This will allow me to promote DMM a bit more, since I had problems staying within the bandwidth limitations of my ISP host. (The first release of DMM almost got my Web site shut down due to excessive downloads!).

I can finally release an update without gnawing my nails wondering if I'm going to get a nasty email from my ISP....

5 May 1998 - Version 2.2 Released

A patch to version 2.2 is now available. Version 2.2 includes, among a few bug fixes, a client launcher which downloads maps, skins & sounds from the server automatically, and plays MIDI (previously only the server played MIDI).

As usual, grab it from the downloads page.

28 April 1998 - Version 2.1 released (CTF Enhancements)

A patch (applicable to users of version 2.0) is now available! This patch fixes a couple of minor bugs, but most also adds the following CTF features:

CTF Custom Skins
Now you're not longer restricted to a single skin in CTF (or even a bunch of skins like LMCTF). All you have to do is have blue and red versions of your favorite skins (in addition to the normal deathmatch version), and you can use them in CTF. The patch includes a few sample skins to show you how it's done.

Offhand Grapple
Use the grapple while still holding a weapon! Bind it to a toggle key, press to fire, and press again to let go. A grapple you can realistically use in manic situations.

Trundle off to the downloads page now...

17 April 1998 - Version 2.0 released!

Deathmatch Manager v2.0 has been released! Exciting new features in version 2.0 include:

CTF Support
The official CTF as issued by ZOID. Requires the .pak files from the CTF archive.

Eraser Bot Support
Thanks to Ryan Feltrin releasing the Eraser source, it is now included in DMM so you don't even need to have a LAN to use Deathmatch Manager!
Deathmatch Manager also allows you to configure all aspects of the bots from the front-end, so bot launching is integrated with the server launcher.

GibStats compatible logging
DM and CTF scores are logged to a file which can be loaded into the GibStats frag analyser.

Visible Weapons (VWep)
Viewable weapons support lets you see what weapons other players are carrying. Requires the VWep pak file.

Bug fixes / enhancements
Miscellaneous bug fixes and features as requested by users.

This now means that Deathmatch Manager collects together some of the most used patches, together with it's own features, to provide you with the friendliest, most fun DM/CTF experience around. And yes, it's still free!
