September 13, 10:36 am PST, Statix - To those of you that are still curious on my recent whereabouts and are actually checking this page frequently, check the Assimilation Quake II mod page. It is true, Frag Stain development has been put on hold for a later date. Right now, I am busily working on the Assimilation modification. Expect an update here from WarZone as well, explaining the whole situation... unless he's chicken. :-Þ Also, some of you may have noticed that the messageboard is broken, unable to post messages. Hopefully, WarZone will fix this very soon. I apologize for any confusion.
September 4, 4:59 pm PST, Statix - For those of you wondering about WarZone's status (Where the heck he is) check out his .plan file for info on what has happened. This came as quite a shock to me.
September 3, 8:26 am PST, Statix - Well, I'm back. Actually, I was back about a week ago, but when I came home I decided that the rather plain HTML design of the site. So, after a lotta tweaking and experimenting with table code, I'm finally finished with the updated design and am ready to update. Unfortunately, because of the randomness of the paint images, they don't tile well at all. So, I was forced to rid of the background image and just repeat the image over and over again (HTML-illiterate people, just go on with your life and don't read this paragraph). But, when doing this, the page becomes quite simple, yet weird looking in very high resolutions, let's say 1280x1024. There was quite a bit of empty space involved, I assure you.
And, for your reading pleasure, I have included some observations of my small stop at Disneyland and Carnival Cruise to Mexico (Dang, I'm gonna get sued for copyright violations). 1) Is it just me, or is mostly everybody working at Disneyland either openly gay or act like it?
I'm not kidding, nor is this a homophobic post, but it seems very obvious, the way they speak in a girly manner (Oh, geez, now I'm getting sued for stereotypical statements). 2) The Ramada hotel freakin' sucks. I mean, it stinks. Triple A my arse, last time I went to a Ramada, the rooms were indoors (As in inside a room) and were clean and sparkly. They even bragged about how butt-loads of people went to a Ramada instead of Holiday Inn, but the hotel I went to was absolutely pitiful, with small dirty rooms and extremely slow room service. How dare someone disgrace the premium reputation of the Ramada brand? 3) The local Malaysian restaurant there isn't operated by Malaysians, to the best of my knowledge. They all spoke cantonese. Don't be fooled! 4) The food on the Carnival ship was bad (in my opinion). I mean, it made me sick, and it had nothing to do with sea sickness. Sure, they may play the restaurant off as some fancy schmancy, forty-dollar-per-serving kinda place, but they give you bad food and little of it. I'm tellin' ya, even a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich looked appealing to me, after the cruise. 5) On a more serious note, there seemed to be a ridiculous amount of chain-smokers at Disneyland. I saw people sitting on benches, choking me with their chemicals. I also saw big jelly-armed women holding on to their little kid's hands while poisoning them with their own personal addictions. This really pisses me off. Why the heck would such a hostile practice (chain smoking) be anywhere near such a lighthearted place (Disneyland). Maybe it's because smokers are so depressed that they need a bit of a pick-me-up. Morons.
Well, enough of me making my bigoted lifestyle an open paragraph to you. I apologize for anyone thinking that the mod project is dead. Because, to the best of my knowledge, it's not. It's been slow because I haven't gotten much word from the Boss about what to do.
August 11, 2:21 pm PST, Statix - Many of you may have noticed a lack of textures for use in your maps. I have made some new ones, although they are nowhere to be found in the Frag Stain directory. It appears that WarZone forgot to upload them (???). Anyhoo, I am going on a short lil' vacation and expect to be back sometime next week. Hint, where I'm going to, there'll be big eared rodents running all over the place... yep, you guessed it, New York CITY! (just kidding, of course)
August 6, 2:00 am PST, WarZone - Heh, another 2:00 am new posting :) First off, Statix, the homepage isn't fraghom.htm, so stop changin the frame to point to that file... its fraghom.shtml :) Heh, that oughta get the point across ;)
Secondly... open beta test!!! Yahooo! Too bad I won't be around to enjoy it :(
If you have a server and you want to run a Frag Stain server, then visit the forum and be sure to post your server's IP address, port, etc. so that people can find their way to your server.
What's in the beta release:
- Several weapon world models (crappy skins)
- Paintball splatting sounds
- New console/HUD graphics
- Paint mine models
- Frag Stain Server DLL
What's not in the beta release:
- Levels
- View weapon models
- New animated splat models
If you're a map maker and you want to make a level for Frag Stain, then talk to the members on the contact page about entity info and textures, etc.
I'm leavin in two and a half hours to the Caribean and I won't be back until August 15th... so, if you guys encounter major bugs that I over looked, tough. You'll have to wait till I get back to get a fix. On that note, I haven't informed the major news sites of FS's public release because I don't know if its even playable (or beta server crashed and burned more than a week ago), as many of the new features haven't been play tested. So... if all goes well, and its not crashing left and right (never had before, but who knows) then feel free to contact Blue's, Redwood's, Telefragged, Quake2.com, etc. and let them know about Frag Stain's release.
Well, I hope you guys have a blast playin Frag Stain, its one of the funnest mod's I've ever played!
See ya when I get back! Have fun!
July 26, 1:38 pm PST, Statix - Well, it turns out that my splatted skins will be used after all. The Boss was skeptical, at first, about the skins I made. They were a bit messy and looked as if they lacked skill to make. But, after some testing, they have finally been approved and he branded them with the "Me rikey." quality check. Good O!
I've also made several icons for the HUD (Head's Up Display), for mines, paintballs, CO2 canisters, barrels and hoppers, although WarZone made a whole set of paint-like characters for the HUD, with his "Super Duper Spectacular Filters" (Damn those filters!) :-Þ
Oh, and by the way, you can tell that The Boss was stressed out below by several mistakes he made in writing in which I had to correct :-)
July 26, 2:33 am PST, WarZone - I give up. FS isn't finished to a point where we'd stand a chance against the PC Gamer judges for many reasons: 1) Our server went down so I haven't been able to test all of the new features I've been adding in. 2) The FS gun models aren't finished yet, although thanks to Automag, we do have the weapon ground (world) models done -- not skinned. 3} We have to have two maps done for the contest, and I mean really good maps... 4) Lack of sounds... the list goes on...
So, to save us from a bit of public embarassment, I'm pullin' the plug on the contest idea. It just ain't worth the stress it's been causing me... I'll be back August 1st... talk to ya then.
FS members that are reading this: Sorry I didn't contact you guys personally, but its frickin' late and I gotta get my sleep. I'm sorry it didn't work out for the contest... :(
July 24, 9:50 am PST, WarZone - Wow, never made an update this early in the morning before : )
FS has been making major progress in terms of playability these last few days. I have been conducting limited testing with whoever I can find on the FS IRC channel.
Also, we have a new modeler on the team, AutOMaG, so if ya run into him be sure to say hi and welcome him aboard. He is currently working on the Talon Pump, Spyder, Automag (hehe), Double Typhoon, and the Angel... not to mention the hoppers and barrels as well. Also, in FS modeling news, Adam's computer crashed (I haven't heard from him since), so I doubt whether that awesome sling shot he made will make it into the PC Gamer release of the mod :(
It is my hope to FINISH the FS code (today) to the point where it is completely playable and ready to be turned in to the PC Gamer judges. FS is already crash free, but there are a few features I want to add in, as well as a few annoying things I've noticed that need to be fixed. All in all, I'm hoping to conduct a full featured beta test today, but no guarantees.
July 16, 7:57 pm PST, WarZone - Sorry for the lack of updates here. Most of my recent posts on the forum shoud've brought you up to speed though. Anyway, after the first round of limited beta testing, many improvements/fixes have been made and as soon as I get another server up (should have been ready hours ago???) a full scale beta program will begin :)
If you're tired of waiting though, log onto IRC and join a Gamesnet.net server and join #FragStain and I'll see if I can let you try it now :)
BTW, in the past week two new people have joined the FS team:
Here's a sling shot model that Adam is working on:
July 6, 3:20 pm PST, WarZone - Well, I'm back! I've spent the morning tweaking the pb physics and the markers. The new CTF modes aren't in there yet, but who cares? ;)
Okay, here's the deal: I promised you guys the beta last week, but I bailed. So to make up for it... beta testing will begin today!!! That's right, if I've already got your name, I'll be mailing you shortly with the info.... that is if you are selected.
June 31, 9:10 pm PST, WarZone - First, I fixed the typo saying with the news all being in July :) Thanx to whoever it was that pointed that out to me... Okay, the news for today is that Free for All CTF is out (there are too many if's/and's/but's involved), and Steal the Bacon CTF is in! STB will involved to teams trying to steal a nuetral flag and bring it back to their base for a handsome reward. I'll put up somemore info about it as it developes...
June 30, 8:42 pm PST, WarZone - Well, I just talked to Hump from PBC and some interesting game play issues/suggestions came up:
- Multiple modes of CTF:
- Normal CTF (like Zoid's)
- TF Style CTF - flags return only after a server defined time period
- Free For All CTF - teams get to decide where their flags will be located, and even move it mid-game
- The first two modes will be easy to put in (the first is already done), but the third will require a bit more thought:
- Everyone shouldn't be able to move the flag cause then the morons on the team would have a field day with the flags
- What I'm thinking is that only the top X (server defined number) players on each team will be able to move the flags, how's that sound?
- Random Iteam/Weapons spawing:
- The map file would define where an item, weapon, hopper, barrel, etc. could be spawned
- The game would then randomly spawn items as they appear in the level's server side INI file, or if the file doesn't exist the game would do it randomly
- This would allow FS to be player on any Q2 map (well, almost any) because no FS specific entities would be in the map file
June 30, 12:15 pm PST, WarZone - I fixed the chase camera so that it now works in waters too. Also added a feature that drops excess ammo when you drop a gun -- so, if you're changing weapons you don't lose it all.
June 29, 11:21 pm PST, WarZone - I just finished the CO2 canister and sent it to Statix to be skinned
July 29 10:12 pm PST, WarZone - I posted a bunch of screen shots, eleven in all, for you to look at on the info page
